Background and Challenge

In Brazil, an industrial solar farm covers a large area as it gathers energy from sunlight. A total of 32 photovoltaic power generation plants span across vast land. It needs to implement a surveillance system which requires a reliable network infrastructure to manage all its security systems and monitor every facility. The network system must also withstand harsh weather as the solar farms are exposed to strong sunlight and temperature during most seasons.

Solution

◆ Enhance the Surveillance Speed of the Solar Farm with Fiber Transmission

Each solar farm location has an L3 20-port Fiber and 8-port Gigabit Stackable Managed Switch (SGS-6341-16S8C4XR) at the main cross connection.

◆ PoE Switches Easily Power IP Surveillance in the Facility

The Industrial 802.3at PoE and Fiber Ethernet Switch (IGS-624HPT) is implemented at each intermediate cross connection.

◆ Switches Require to Handle Harsh Temperatures at the Solar Farm

PLANET industrial switches were selected because they can withstand harsh environmental effects, such as extreme temperature, humidity, and oxidation, inside the external cabinets at the solar farm.
