How does the Disk Server compare with NT or NetWare file servers?

Disk Server is a dual-function server appliance optimized for network file sharing and printer sharing. Because it is a simple, limited-function device, it can perform its task easily with minimal software overhead and economical hardware. Also, no "Client Licenses" are required, and in fact no additional client software needs to be installed. Windows NT or NetWare servers are multi-function general purpose servers that can provide network storage, but also perform many other network tasks. Because they are multi-functional, they require expensive, complex network operating systems that must be configured by experienced professionals for optimum performance. NT, NetWare or UNIX servers also require substantially more hardware to perform their multi-function tasking, which adds to their cost and complexity. Further, licensing agreements often require that each client accessing the Server have a licensed copy of the client software installed.
